2023 Zoo Camp Schedule Announced

It’s never too early to start thinking about summer! That’s why we’re excited to release the 2023 topics and schedule for the NEW Zoo & Adventure Park’s summer camp programs for children entering grades 1st through 7th in the 2023-24 school year. Registration opens Tuesday, January 17th at 6:00 p.m.

This year, the Zoo is once again offering TWO types of summer zoo camp programs:

  • Single-day Summer Safari experiences for 1st through 4th graders, where students may attend up to two different dates with different topics at a cost of $40 per day (Zoo Members receive a 20% discount)
  • Two-day Summer Zoo Camp experiences for 5th through 7th graders, where students attend two consecutive dates with the same topic at a cost of $90 per two-day session (Zoo Members receive a 20% discount)

All programs will begin at 8:45am and end at 3:00pm daily. Children must be registered to attend a day that corresponds to their age group and the grade they will be entering in fall of 2023. A morning snack and afternoon treat is provided by the zoo, but parents must provide a non-microwaveable, non-refrigerated lunch for each camper. Each day’s program includes educational presentations, live animal encounters, zoo tours, and other fun activities like games and crafts.  Children should dress for the weather and wear comfortable shoes. Pre-registration is required, and a limited number of spaces are available for each session.

Programs Topics

For students entering 1st/2nd grades in 2023-24 school year:

  • Call of the WildSqueak, roar, howl, and hoot in this fun camp where we learn about how animals communicate! We’ll explore both the many sounds and the soundless ways that animals share messages with one another. Offered June 19, July 10, July 12, and August 1st; each camper may attend any ONE date.
  • Extreme Creatures: Animals survive in some extreme environments! From the blazing hot desert to the frozen tundra, and from the depths of the ocean to the highest mountain peak, we’ll discover what extreme living is like in this exciting camp. Offered June 20, July 11, July 17 and August 2; each camper may attend any ONE date.

For students entering 3rd/4th grades in 2023-24 school year:

  • Animal Oddities: Think people are strange? You should see some of these animals! We’ll explore the “stranger side” of nature and the creatures that are often misunderstood by people and see how being “weird” can be wonderful for survival! Offered June 21, July 18, and July 24; each camper may attend any ONE date.
  • Wild by Design: Animals can be amazing designers and architects! Together we’ll explore what animals build and why, and we’ll even try our hand at constructing some special structures of our own. Offered June 26, July 19, and July 31; each camper may attend any ONE date.

For students entering 5th/6th/7th grades in the 2023-24 school year:

  • Wildlife Biologists: Experience the zoo through the eyes of a field biologist! During our two days together, we’ll explore scientific techniques for studying animals and learn how real-world biologists use their skills to make a difference for wildlife and wild places. We’ll discover some the many ways we can make a difference for animals, too. Offered June 27-28, July 25-26, and August 8-9; each camper may attend any ONE SET of dates.
