With the return of colder temperatures, the NEW Zoo & Adventure Park is returning to Winter Hours of Operation starting on Wednesday, November 1st. Both the Zoo and the Neil Anderson Canopy Tour will be open daily (including on holidays!) from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. with the final tour for the Canopy Tour departing at 3:30 p.m. The Adventure Park’s Ropes Course, Ziplines, Climbing Wall, and Kids Kourse will be closed for the season, although groups can schedule private experiences when reserved in advance. Winter Hours of Operation will remain in effect through the end of March.
Just because the temperatures are colder doesn’t mean there isn’t still plenty to see! The majority of the zoo’s animals remain in their regular habitats year-round; only a few, like Lucky the alligator and other temperature-sensitive animals such as the tropical birds, are moved behind-the-scenes for the winter. Luckily, however, Lucky can be seen through a viewing window in the giraffe building during open hours for the Giraffe Feeding Experience! For the winter season, the Giraffe Feeding Experience will be open most days from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and/or from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Speaking of giraffes, our newest, Eddie, continues to get to know residents Zuri and Nigel through supervised bonding sessions. Zoo guests can often get a glimpse of him through the viewing window in the Lee & Kathy Anderson Giraffe Lodge or at the indoor Giraffe Feeding Experience. Although Eddie has not yet shown interest in participating in the public feedings, that could change at any time! Individuals interested in getting to better know Eddie, Nigel, and Zuri are encouraged to join our Giraffe Ambassador volunteer program. The NEW Zoo is always recruiting for volunteers, and winter is a great time to get started while things are a bit quieter – the animals can really get to know you.
