Treat dad to a WILD experience this Father’s Day: Come out to the NEW Zoo & Adventure Park, where all fathers receive free admission to the NEW Zoo on their special day! It’s also half-price zips for all dads at the Adventure Park on Father’s Day. Race your dad to the bottom and create some lasting memories!
Dads are a big deal at the Zoo this Fathers’ Day. Gilligan, one of our African penguins, became a dad to two endangered chicks (Pipsqueak and Cheers) in January. Both baby boys are doing great and are with the rest of the penguin flock. You can see them swimming and sunbathing on exhibit!
While you’re here, you can also see Abner, the trumpeter swan, display his parenting skills! The father of eight cygnets that hatched that on June 3rd and 4th, 2018, shares equal responsibility with his mate in raising their brood. The cygnets raised by their parents at the NEW Zoo are eventually reintroduced into the wild and are helping to save their species from extinction. Several of the swans raised here are now an integral part of the Midwestern wild breeding population.
Heart Bound Greyhound, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping retired greyhound racers, will also be on-site in front of the NEW Zoo from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., with both human and canine representatives for zoo visitors to greet (weather permitting – the greyhounds are unable to be on-site in extreme heat). Don’t forget to feed the giraffes! Hodari and Zuri will be available at the Giraffe Feeding Experience from 10:30am to 1:15pm and again from 2:15pm to 5:00pm.
The Dog House will also be on-site during the day, offering fresh and delicious deep-fried cheese curds.
PLEASE NOTE: There is a DETOUR ROUTE to get to the NEW Zoo, as the HWY B interchange is currently under construction.
