World Giraffe Day

June 25 @ 9:00 am - 3:00 pm

The NEW Zoo & Adventure Park invites you to join us for a World Giraffe Day celebration, sponsored by the NEW Zoological Society, on Saturday, June 25th from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. This year’s event will once again support much-needed giraffe conservation efforts, with funds raised going directly to the Giraffe Conservation Foundation in Africa.

Guests can enjoy a variety of fun activities throughout the day, including kids’ games and crafts, face and arm painting, temporary tattoos, a coloring contest, and more. Be sure to meet Zuri and Nigel at the Giraffe Feeding Experience which will be open for the duration of the event. Visit with “Stretch” the NEW Zoo mascot giraffe between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. and stop by the Giraffe Merchandise Sales Tent to browse a selection of giraffe crafts and other items – including paintings made by our very own giraffes! All sales from the merchandise tent and Giraffe Feeding Experience, as well as from carousel rides and other select activities, will be donated to the Giraffe Conservation Foundation to help save giraffes.

Current Africa-wide giraffe populations are estimated at approximately 117,000 individuals, which is a drop by almost 30% in recent years. However, some habitats once considered prime giraffe habitat have seen giraffe numbers drop by as much as 95% in the same time frame. In other words, giraffes are in trouble. Three of the four giraffe species are threatened with extinction and require greater protection and management in the wild. The NEW Zoo & Adventure Park is proud to partner with the Giraffe Conservation Foundation to provide support through donations and by educating guests about giraffes and their plight.

Giraffe Conservation Foundation is the only non-government organization in the world that concentrates solely on the conservation and management of giraffes in the wild throughout Africa. The organization is dedicated to a sustainable future for all giraffe populations in the wild.  The NEW Zoo & Adventure Park has been building memories connected to nature for over 60 years. People just like you in our community have marveled at seeing wild animals up close, forging connections, and creating memories. Thank you for your support!
