Cat-Con for Conservation

August 16 @ 9:00 am - 2:00 pm

Calling all superheroes, comic fans, and cat enthusiasts! We’re not lion: the NEW Zoo & Adventure Park wants you to join us for our first ever Cat-Con for Conservation event, presented by the NEW Zoological Society, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Friday, August 16th. Proceeds from this family-friendly event will directly support conservation of threatened and endangered cat species around the world, such as African lions and snow leopards, through SAFE: Saving Animals from Extinction. This event is free with regular zoo admission.

We’re encouraging guests to truly get excited about being “Superheroes for Conservation!” Wear your superhero masks and capes, put on a pair of cat ears, and show us your best cosplay costumes! Of course, any cat-themed clothing and accessories you have are also welcome.

A variety of super fun, pawsome activities will be available throughout the day. Guests can enjoy both games and crafts, temporary tattoos, rock painting, carousel rides, educational displays, a special merchandise sales booth – featuring some of our resident cats’ “autographs” for sale! – and more. An African Lion Q&A will take place at 9:15 a.m. and a Snow Leopard Q&A at 11:00 a.m. will end with the opportunity for guests to step inside the snow leopards’ indoor habitat. These behind-the-scenes viewings of the Lee & Kathy Anderson Snow Leopard Den will be a “sneak peek” preview of the new Snow Leopard VIP Experiences coming to the NEW Zoo soon!

We’re not fur-getting our smaller cat species, either. A Canada Lynx Q&A will take place at 1:00 p.m. at the lynx habitat housing Carson and Lucy, the lynx that have been here at the NEW Zoo since 2009. Cat-Con will be the purrfect event to connect with the NEW Zoo’s resident felines. We can’t wait to see you there!
