The NEW Zoological Society and the NEW Zoo & Adventure Park invite you to celebrate our most “roarsome” residents at World Lion Day on Friday, August 11th from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Proceeds from this event will support conservation, with funds raised supporting African lions through SAFE: Saving Animals from Extinction. This event is free with regular zoo admission.
Lions are considered a vulnerable species, which means their populations are declining and the species will become endangered without help from humans. In fact, lions have vanished from over 90% of their historic range. There are only around 370 African lions at 100 AZA accredited zoos across the United States, and the NEW Zoo & Adventure Park is proud to have two of those lions living here.
During our World Lion Day event, guests can enjoy a variety of fun activities, such as kids’ games and crafts, a Lion Discovery Station, carousel rides, and more. Guests can browse a selection of lion-themed crafts and gifts, including paintings made by some of our very own big cats! An African Lion Zookeeper Chat will take place at 10:30 a.m. and again at 1:00 p.m. in front of the lion training window, and an enrichment demonstration will also take place at 9:15 a.m. before the lions are released into their yard for the day around 9:30 a.m.
