It’s time to release the 2024 topics and schedule for the NEW Zoo & Adventure Park’s Summer Zoo Camp Programs! Registration will open Monday, January 22nd at 6:00 p.m.

This year, the Zoo is offering TWO types of summer camp programs:

  • Single-day “Summer Safari” programs for 1st through 4th grades, where students may attend up to two different dates with different topics at a cost of $45 per day (Members receive a discount)

And

  • Two-day “Summer Zoo Camp” programs for 5th through 7th graders, where students must attend two consecutive dates with the same topic at a cost of $95 per two-day session (Members receive a discount)

All programs will begin at 8:45am and end at 3:00pm daily. Children must be registered to attend a day that corresponds to their age group and the grade they will be entering in fall of 2024. A morning snack and afternoon treat is provided by the zoo, but parents must provide a non-microwaveable, non-refrigerated lunch for each camper. Each day’s program includes educational presentations, live animal encounters, zoo tours, and other fun activities like games and crafts.  Children should dress for the weather and wear comfortable shoes. Pre-registration is required and classes often fill quickly!

Programs offered include:

For 1st/2nd graders – Animal Appetites: Hope you’re hungry! In this camp, we’ll discover how animals find food that suits their tastes. We’ll meet picky eaters and a few “I’ll eat anything” eaters while learning about herbivores, omnivores, and carnivores and some of the many critters in between. Offered June 17, July 3, July 16, and Aug 6 (Each camper may attend any one of these dates) (July 16, Aug 6 SOLD OUT)

For 1st/2nd graders – I like to Move It: Animals have many ways of getting around. During this camp, we’ll meet animals with amazing abilities and give their “methods of movement” a try ourselves. Can we dig like a prairie dog, climb like a snow leopard, or slither like a snake? Let’s find out! After all, we like to MOVE IT, MOVE IT! Offered June 18, July 10, July 29, and August 5 (Each camper may attend any one of these dates) (June 18, Aug 5 SOLD OUT)

For 3rd/4th graders – Animal Innovators: Did you know that people have long looked to animals to inspire inventions? It’s called “biomimicry” when scientists copy strategies found in nature to solve human design challenges. In this camp, we’ll explore how biomimicry helps create technology, gadgets, and more through our own observations and hands-on experiments. Offered June 26, July 2, July 17, and July 31 (Each camper may attend any one of these dates) (July 2 SOLD OUT)

For 3rd/4th graders – Magical Creatures: Mythical, “magical” creatures are not just found in books and movies! They often have real-life counterparts that are just as amazing. We’ll explore some of the more unique critters here at the Zoo and learn all about what makes them special. Offered July 1, July 15, July 24, and July 30 (Each camper may attend any one of these dates) (July 1 SOLD OUT)

For 5th/6th/7th graders – Zookeeping 101: This two-day adventure puts campers into the “boots” of our zookeepers. We’ll gain hands-on experiences with important zookeeping skills and see what it’s like to be an animal caretaker. From zoo food and nutrition, to taking detailed observations, to, yes – even scooping poop! – it’s all in a day’s work when working with animals. Offered June 24-25, July 8-9, July 22-23, and August 12-13 (Each camper may attend one set of these dates) (All dates SOLD OUT. Add to wait list here.)
